The Quest for an Ancient Culture’s Cannabis-Filled Cooking - Cannabis News

The Svans, from Georgia’s Caucasus region, had their weed culture (and plants) uprooted.

Khachapuri, the cheese bread native to Georgia, is a regional staple. But a local rumor holds that the Svans—an ancient community living in the highest settlements of the Caucasus—eat a fragrant, weed-filled iteration.

From the moment a Georgian friend told me about this elusive dish, I couldn’t stop thinking about it—I wondered what it tasted like, whether anyone still made it—and, naturally, whether or not it would get me stoned.

Starting cannabis from seed? Here’s help from a master gardener - Cannabis News

There are two ways to begin growing a cannabis plant. The first is from seed and the second is from a clone.

As my Green Thumb gardening project unfolds — growing marijuana for the first time, in my East Bay backyard — I’ll start in here with the lessons I’ve been learning about seeds.

(Clones, in non-cannabis lingo called a vegetative cutting, don’t go into the garden until May or June. Stay tuned for that lesson.)

Tips for Improving Your Cannabis Soil on a Budget - Cannabis News

Healthy soil is essential to growing quality cannabis, but new soil can be prohibitively expensive.

If growing outdoors, you may find that the soil native to your backyard is heavily compacted and have a clay texture, or it might crumble and appear sandy.

While these are signs of poor quality soils, much can still be done—even on a budget.

Give these free or inexpensive techniques a try, and watch your garden thrive.

Wet vs. dry trimming your cannabis plants

Nobody wants to smoke leafy stash full of sticks and stems. Trimming your cannabis plants is the final step in converting flowers into finished product.

We break down the wet and dry trimming techniques, so you can best decide how to manicure your marijuana.

The difference between wet and dry trimming your buds.

So, your plants are ready for harvest. Unless you plan on hand-rubbing charas from the fresh flowers, you’ll need to carefully harvest your bud.

Here's What Was In The Cannabis Swag Bags At The 2018 Oscars - Cannabis News

The 90th Academy Awards was a historic moment for cannabis culture, as celebs were treated to marijuana swag bags backstage at the Oscars.

The cannabis freebies - which were provided by the artisanal cannabis distributor Flow Kana - included apparel, paraphernalia and, last but not least, cannabis.

Unsurprisingly, the giveaway was a huge hit with the lucky celebs who got swag bags, which were offered to presenters and performers like (but not necessarily including) Jimmy Kimmel, Dave Chappelle, Matthew McConaughey and other stars.

How to Prep Your Home Cannabis Garden for the Outdoor Season - Cannabis News

It’s officially springtime, which means it’s time for cannabis cultivators to gear up for the outdoor growing season.

While large farms generally get a jumpstart in February and March, there’s still plenty of time to get started on your backyard grow.

You won’t be able to sow your seeds or plant your clones until after the last frost of the season, but this doesn’t mean you should wait to get started.

From preparing your garden and tools to popping seeds, a lot can be done before your plants go into the ground.

8 Cannabis Festivals That Changed the Game - Cannabis News

Cannabis events don’t always get the credit they deserve for the vital role they’ve played in ending prohibition and paving the way to a new era of social acceptability.

The non-violent political uprising that led to the end of communism in the former Czechoslovakia is known as the Velvet Revolution, because the small band of artists, agitators, and political organizers behind that successful push for freedom originally came together to listen to Velvet Underground records (banned under Soviet rule) and party.

So it was culture, not conflict, that took down an oppressive and corrupt political regime. This is something that came to mind when I stepped up to speak at the 2016 Cannafest in the Czech Republic.

Why some yoga classes are using pot in their practice - Cannabis News

'I can do it sober but it's just so much nicer this way.'

Class was supposed to start almost 20 minutes ago. Most of the yoga students are still socializing, sipping tea and taking a few last tokes of marijuana.

The group slowly makes their way to their mats, spread out in the centre of the Green Sprouts Cafe and Vapor Lounge.

The Barrie, Ont., cannabis lounge hosts cannabis yoga classes every Sunday. "We're always 15 minutes late," said cannabis yoga instructor Trina Wannamaker. She was busy toking up too.

San Francisco Embraces Amsterdam-Style Marijuana Lounges - Cannabis News

San Francisco plans to issue more permits for marijuana smoking lounges this year after health officials finalize updated regulations.

The smoke was thick and business brisk at the Barbary Coast Dispensary's marijuana smoking lounge, a darkened room that resembles a steakhouse or upscale sports tavern with its red leather seats, deep booths with high dividers, and hardwood floors.

"There's nothing like this in Jersey," said grinning Atlantic City resident Rick Thompson, getting high with his cousins in San Francisco.

In fact, there's nothing like the Barbary Coast lounge almost anywhere in the United States, a conundrum confronting many marijuana enthusiasts who find it increasingly easy to buy pot but harder to find legal places to smoke it.

How to spring forward into medical cannabis gardening, and recreational, too - Cannabis News

In California, marijuana goes in the ground after the last freeze of Spring and is harvested before the Fall rains. But how do you even start?

It’s almost spring and cannabis gardening is legal across California. Proposition 64 enshrined into law your right to grow up to six plants indoors, or out, so long as you follow your local city or county’s rules.

With recreational cannabis prices up 15 to 40% due to new taxes and regulations, growing your own is now super-enticing to the budget-conscious, especially medical patients, who are already under financial stress.

You can expect to save 90 percent off the retail cost of marijuana by doing it yourself.

It's the first time that cannabis has been given out as swag at the event, whose organizers okayed the historical giveaway, according to a Flow Kana spokesperson.

And that just goes to show much attitudes toward marijuana have changed in a short time.

Inside L.A.’s First-Ever Cannabis Wedding Expo - Cannabis News

Weed weddings are already becoming big business.

On Saturday at a Studio City event center, wedding vendor Doreen Sullivan cheerfully greeted brides-to-be as they stopped by her booth to peruse the chic, one-of-a-kind vintage vases she sells under the moniker My Bud Vase.

With the right floral accompaniment, the delicate vessels—which come in colors from understated pastel pink to bold iridescent purple—make ideal centerpieces for rehearsal dinners or receptions, but still Sullivan says, “I didn’t realize they would register so strongly with weddings.”

That’s because Sullivan’s vases have been retrofitted to double as bongs.

Use your nose to find the perfect wine and cannabis pairing - Cannabis News

If you are looking to consume cannabis with wine, it is best to match up the aromas for a better pairing.

Northern California is home to Wine Country. But take a drive farther north into Mendocino and Humboldt counties and you will find cannabis country.

That is where a lot of marijuana is grown in California.

And just like wine, cannabis growers are taking advantage of the special growing conditions in those areas to cultivate marijuana with aromas that are very familiar to wine aficionados.

Reaching Art’s Higher Limits - Cannabis News

Creative competition elevates cannabis-infused visual art.

This art is not the realm of dorm poster offerings, but you’ll find more than a few canvases filled with neon stoney swirls and psychedelic seven-pointed green leaves.

This is the High Art contest: the realm of intricate designs, fresh perspectives and original symbolism.

Here, artists from around the world reinterpret the visions of canonical artists such as Hieronymus Bosch, Hannah Höch and Paul Gauguin in order to celebrate the most cerebral and healing herb.
