The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection received 13,806 applications for the general licensing lottery and 23,487 for the social equity license that the General Assembly created for communities most impacted by cannabis prohibition, according to a Yahoo! News report.

The majority of applicants, 15,606, applied for retail licenses, the news outlet reported.

Other licensing types include cultivators, food and beverage manufacturers and delivery services.

The last 90-day deadline for applications passed June 22, according to Yahoo!.

The 56 available licenses will be divided evenly between general applicants and social equity applicants, the news outlet reported, and regulators will ultimately award licenses to four micro-cultivators, 10 food and beverage producers, six manufacturers, six packagers, four transporters, four hybrid medical and adult-use retailers, 12 adult-use-only retailers, and 10 delivery services.

The Social Equity Council will meet July 12 to start reviewing the applications, and those not selected by the council will be placed in the general lottery, Yahoo! reported.

Connecticut legalized adult-use cannabis last summer, with sales expected to launch later this year.
