Mississippi launched the application process for patients seeking to enroll in the state’s medical cannabis program June 1, according to an ABC24 report.

Patients with physician approval, as well as cultivators, processors and testing facilities, can apply with the Mississippi Department of Health starting Wednesday, the news outlet reported. Applications also open June 1 for medical practitioners and cannabis transportation and waste disposal services.

Pre-application requirements include reading the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act and reviewing the program’s regulations, as well as a background check and fingerprinting, ABC24 reported. More information about the application process can be found here.

Dispensaries will be licensed through the Mississippi Department of Revenue, ABC24 reported, and that application process will open in July.

The state has a 30-day turnaround for approving business license applications and a five-day timeline for approving patients, according to the news outlet.

Mississippi became the 37th state to legalize medical cannabis when Gov. Tate Reeves signed his state’s program into law in February.

Once the market is up and running, qualifying patients will be able to access up to 3 ounces of dried cannabis flower per month, with a daily limit of 3.5 grams of flower, 1 gram of concentrate or 100 milligrams of THC in an infused product. The daily units are capped at six per week and 24 per month.
