Join CMA and LPP for virtual happy hour where we will be writing letters to Last Prisoner Project’s constituents!

The Last Prisoner Project (LPP) is a coalition of cannabis industry leaders, executives and artists dedicated to bringing restorative justice to the cannabis industry. LPP is dedicated to releasing cannabis prisoners and helping them rebuild their lives.

Join Cannabis Marketing Association and Last Prisoner Project for our Letter Writing Happy Hour on October 13. Attendees will hear from LPP’s Managing Director, Mary Bailey, to learn about Last Prisoner Project’s Letter Writing Program, how to get involved, and have the opportunity to write an LPP constituent a letter.

What to Write

The biggest hurdle to beginning a pen pal relationship is getting started. A suggestion for a first letter might include an intro with a short bio, an explanation of how you came to hear about your pen pal, hobbies, pets, music, activism, etc. Let them know that cannabis justice activists like yourself are fighting for their freedom! Don’t forget, the prison mail system can be slow. Sometimes it takes several weeks to get a response.

Mailing Instructions

  • Plain white envelopes only
  • No stamps (other than postage stamps on the envelope), stickers, tape, glue, glitter, staples, paper clips, fragrances, crayon, ribbon, etc on the envelope or letter
  • No popup/out content
  • No address labels
  • All ingoing and outgoing mail is subject to inspection. Never include anything you wouldn’t want staff to read
  • No drawings or markings that can be misconstrued as secret code or inappropriate content etc
  • Please realize that even if you do everything correctly, mail can be returned

Addressing the Envelope

Always include your pen pal’s full name, six-digit prison ID#, institution name, address, and your full name and return address.

This event is free to everyone; however, $10 donations to Last Prisoner Project are suggested.

To learn more about Last Prisoner Project, visit https://www.lastprisonerproject.org/.

About Pothead

Beginning innocently enough in his 20s, Neal Pollack discovers that pot makes everything–food, music, sex–better. Getting married, having a kid, and enjoying professional success do nothing to dampen Pollack’s enthusiasm for getting high. As cannabis grows stronger and more widely available, the expansion and acceptance of marijuana Big Business shadows Pollack’s dependence.

By 2014, Neal is a correspondent for a national marijuana newspaper, mostly because it means free pot. Diving into the wild, wicked world of weed with both lungs, Pollack proceeds to smoke, vape, and eat his way to oblivion, leading to public meltdowns and other embarrassing behavior. After his mother dies in 2017, he spirals out of control, finally hitting bottom during a reckless two-day gambling and drug-filled binge, culminating in a public crack-up at the World Series in Dodger Stadium. Three weeks later, he quits.

After joining a twelve-step program, Neal outs himself as a marijuana addict in a 2018 New York Times op-ed piece, leading to his decision to document his experience as a cautionary tale for the millions of recreational users in the hazy age of legalized weed.

Cannabis Labs/Food Labs Conference June 2 - 5, 2020

Now a Virtual Conference! In light of the COVID-19’s social distancing protocols and our concern over attendees’ safety, Innovative Publishing Company has converted the originally scheduled 2 day conference, planned in Rockville, MD to a virtual event with the webcast taking place over four days, June 2-5, from 11am to 4pm EST each day. The new format still allows for Q&A between attendees and speakers.

No Registration Fee! Recognizing the current financial strain on the two industries, this event’s registration is now complimentary* to attendees and underwritten by our sponsors. To attend the virtual event, you still need to register in advance but there is no charge.

Become a Sponsor! If your company is a Laboratory technology or service provider and you need to fill your lost tradeshow pipeline, consider sponsoring this event. There are several levels of sponsorships available, starting at the price of a typical 10 foot booth. Each sponsorship includes a 15 minute "Tech Talk" presentation positioned between speakers. There are a limited amount Tech Talk positions still available. For more info, contact RJ Palermo at [email protected] or phone & text: +203.667.2212

The legalization of medical and recreational cannabis products across Canada and many US states has led to an increased demand for safe cannabis products. Health Canada has set stringent regulations for testing pesticides in cannabis products, both in terms of the number of pesticides required to be analyzed and the relatively low limits of quantification that must be achieved.

To fulfil these mandatory testing requirements, we need quantitative and confirmatory methods that can provide reliable coverage and robust performance for the entire list of pesticides.

Although most of the target pesticides are amenable to LC-MS/MS analysis, selected pesticides require much lower detection limits that can be achieved using GC-MS/MS methods. We will discuss how these complimentary techniques and the benefits of atmospheric pressure GC (APGC-MS/MS) can be used to provide a suitable determination of all pesticides currently regulated by Health Canada at the recommended limits of quantitation.

By attending this webinar, you will:

- Understand the value of LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS for comprehensive pesticide screening in cannabis
- Gain insight into regulatory requirements for cannabis testing labs to ensure safety and quality of cannabis-derived products
- Learn how to leverage the benefits of turnkey solutions to help regulated labs consistently deliver accurate results

The Fireside Chat series of NCIA’s #Industry Essentials webinars are an exclusive opportunity for NCIA members to hear from our government relations team and guests about the latest developments in federal policy.

As Memorial Day nears, it’s important to remember the reason for the holiday: our veterans.

Unfortunately, though all gave some and some gave all, the vast majority of our veterans are still unable to access safe, regulated cannabis. Many individuals in the veteran community struggle under unique health burdens stemming from their honorable service, and have experienced little success in managing their conditions with available pharmaceuticals. Through cannabis, veterans of all generations and with various conditions have experienced improvements in their quality of life by using cannabis.

In Congress, two bills aimed at tackling this issue have already passed out of the House Veterans Affairs Committee– H.R. 712: the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act of 2019, sponsored by Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA) and H.R. 1647: the Veterans Equal Access Act, sponsored by Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR). In March, the Congressional Budget Office scored H.R. 1647 and found that passing the bill into law would cost the federal government exactly $0.

So, please join us for a webinar focused on cannabis, health, and our armed services members. NCIA’s Government Relations team will be joined by none other than the lead sponsors of the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act of 2019 and H.R. 1647: the Veterans Equal Access Act, Congressmen Lou Correa and Earl Blumenauer, respectively. Our panel will also include the cofounders of the Veterans Cannabis Coalition, Eric Goepel and Bill Ferguson. This unique opportunity will allow you to hear from the lead sponsors of legislation designed to give our veterans the best quality of life possible, interact with member(s) of Congress, and learn more about the prospects of these bills passing into law.

Panelists:

Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR)

Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA)

Meeting government microbial bioburden standards can be challenging, especially for flower. There are, however, safe and effective treatments that enable plant material to pass state limits on microbial contamination. In this webinar we will be exploring these treatments including ozone, microwaves and irradiation. In addition, we will look at approaches for maintaining low levels of microbes once the materials are on the shelf. These methods can be used in concert to ensure compliance and healthful products along the entire supply chain. Adopting the proper strategy assures quality of the product, as well as maximizing public safety and profits

This webinar will discuss:

- State limits for cannabis microbial contamination
- Safe and effective treatments for remediation of microbes
- Strategies to limit microbial contamination in cannabis crop
- Methods to ensure compliance along the entire cannabis supply chain

Cannabis Marketing Association is hosting a panel discussion examining how to pass a comprehensive adult-use bill through effective advocacy
New York has been taking steps towards adult-use legalization, but with the last attempt failing to pass during the 2019 legislative season, it is time to look deeper into what happened and why. Hear from government officials, industry representatives, and legal experts about what it will take for comprehensive cannabis reform to happen in New York in 2020 that benefits patients, adult-use consumers, and minority communities impacted by the drug war. This panel will take a look at what happened during the last legislative session and will discuss the critical issues concerning the future of the industry.

Following the event, there will be a cash-bar mixer at the 230 Fifth Ave Rooftop bar at 8:30 pm.

During our hour-long expertly moderated panel we will discuss:

What happened with the failed adult-use bill in New York
How the industry can advocate and interact with government officials effectively
What’s important in the political and cultural agenda for a successful adult-use bill to be passed
