Ooze Releases Next Generation of Vape Batteries

Oak Park, IL, Sept. 19, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Ooze, maker of the nation’s best-selling vape battery, has launched the next generation of 510 style vaporizer batteries. This product line includes a completely redesigned version of the Twist Slim Pen and a wireless speaker vape called the Movez.

“When Ooze was first founded, most vape batteries on the market were cheap, unbranded devices found in gas stations and smoke shops,” said Ooze Founder and President Danny Hannawa. “Our original goal was to establish a brand that customers could trust for their vape pens. Now that we have such a stronghold in this market, we are focusing on improving our technology and making better, longer-lasting products.”

The Ooze Slim Twist Pen has been a best-seller for years, thanks to how simple it is to use, its reliability, and the wide range of color options. Ooze has listened to years’ worth of customer feedback to improve the device and has since launched the Twist Slim Pen 2.0 in 18 different colors. This new version introduces many new features including pulse wave technology, auto draw, and fan-favorite automatic shut-off which improves battery life.

While most vaporizer batteries are designed to be discreet, the Ooze Movez takes the opposite stance. The Movez can pair to any smartphone to play music right from the vape. It features a rainbow LED ring, automatic shut-off, and a magnetic connection. It’s a revolutionary device that gives fun and functional a new meaning.

Perhaps the most important feature of each Ooze vape device is the warranty that protects every single Ooze customer. Ooze product registration guarantees product authenticity and activates the product’s warranty. The Ooze Warranty Program covers every device Ooze makes for up to five years.

“The launch of our new generation of devices is the biggest thing to happen to the Ooze brand this year and sets the stage for the major announcements we have coming in 2023,” said Ooze Marketing Director Tristan Blackett. “It shows our industry that Ooze is a major contender. Not only are we introducing new technology, form factors, and finishes for these devices, but we deliver customer peace of mind with the Ooze Warranty Program.”

Canada Launches Review of Cannabis Legalization

The Canadian government announced Sept. 22 that it has launched a review of its 2018 adult-use cannabis legalization law to evaluate its impact on youth, indigenous communities, the economy, the illicit market and more.

The study was mandated by the Cannabis Act, which took effect in October 2018 and directed Canada’s health minister to conduct a review of the legislation, its administration and operation three years later, according to a Reuters report.

“The work of the Expert Panel will address the ongoing and emerging needs of Canadians while protecting their health and safety,” Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said in a public statement. “Through this useful, inclusive and evidence-driven review, we will strengthen the act so that it meets the needs of all Canadians while continuing to displace the illicit market. I look forward to receiving the panel's findings.”

Duclos said the review, which launched a year later than planned, took longer than expected to set in motion because the government wanted to “make sure things were done right” and conduct a more extensive evaluation than the law required, Reuters reported.

The Cannabis Act had two main objectives, according to Health Canada’s press release: “to protect the health and safety of Canadians while serving as a flexible legislative framework that adapts and responds to the ongoing and emerging needs of Canadians,” and to create “a diverse and competitive legal industry made up of small and large players to displace the illicit market.”

'CannaBus’ Mobile Dispensary to Educate Consumers on Texas Medical Program

Goodblend, the retail brand of multi-state operator Parallel, one of three licensed companies in Texas, is taking its “CannaBus” mobile dispensary on tour in October to educate consumers on the state’s medical cannabis program.

The “Ride For Your Rights” CannaBus Tour will take place from Oct. 4 to Oct. 20 in cities across the state, including Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and more.

The tour’s mission is to educate consumers and prospective patients about the state’s medical cannabis program, its regulations, products, the process of receiving a medical prescription, and more.

Texas has yet to legalize the commercial sale of medical cannabis without low-THC restrictions. In June 2021, Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1535 into law, which expanded “the state’s medical cannabis qualifying conditions to include cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),” Cannabis Business Times reported.

“At goodblend Medical Cannabis, we want Texans to feel good. We believe access to medical cannabis will help. That’s why we’re hitting the road. Our ‘Ride For Your Rights’ CannaBus Tour will rally support to expand access to medical cannabis for Texans. We hope to convince state legislators to make real, lasting change,” the company stated on this event page.

Cannabis Remains Banned by World Anti-Doping Agency

Although there is no scientific evidence that cannabis use provides a competitive edge for world-class athletes, those who test positive for the plant will remain at risk of suspension and other punishable measures in 2023.

That’s because cannabis will still be a banned substance at sports events next year after the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) executive committee decided Sept. 23 in Sydney that it will remain on the list of prohibited substances and methods.

The agency was asked in 2021 to review its policies on cannabis following U.S. Olympic Trials champion sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson testing positive in July of that year. The women’s 100-meter dash phenom, who was 21 years old at the time, was banned from competing in her main event during the Tokyo Olympics. She was the favorite for gold.

Since Jan. 1, 2021, cannabis has been classified as a “Substance of Abuse” by WADA that currently carries a maximum four-year ban for athletes.

As it relates to cannabis remaining on the 2023 list of banned substances, WADA’s executive committee endorsed the List Expert Advisory Group’s (LiEAG) recommendation. Responsible for providing expert advice and guidance for the banned substances list, LiEAG has 12 members from nine countries, including three from the U.S.

Connecticut DCP Selects 6 Retailers, 2 Micro-Cultivators in Licensing Lottery

The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) announced six retailers and two micro-cultivators selected in the general lottery who can move forward in the licensure process.

The retailers selected are Debbie’s Dispensary, Shangri-La CT Inc., SHANGRI-LA CT INC., Hydra East, SLAP ASH, and Sara’s Dispensary LLC. Debbie’s Dispensary was also one of the two selected micro-cultivators along with Chillax LLC.

The general lottery included all general lottery applicants and all applicants who were not selected in the first round of the Social Equity Lottery, which took place in August. The Social Equity Council approved six retailers, two micro-cultivators, and three Equity Joint Venture applicants in the first round, Cannabis Business Times reported.

The next steps for general lottery applicants include submitting “information for the required background check and provisional license application, which will be reviewed by DCP,” according to a press release.

Approved applicants will then be required to pay licensure fees based on their application type. Licensure fees for non-social equity applicants and social equity applicants can be found here.

Flower Remains King: Findings From Cannabis Consumer Research

Flower was the most-reported product amongst purposeful cannabis consumers, according to a report from New Frontier Data.

The report, “Cannabis Consumers in America: Part 2: The Purposeful Consumer,” was researched in partnership with Jointly, and examines who is consuming cannabis, which products they consume, when and where they consume, as well as why.

What and Who?

Flower (60%) led the way on product consumption while vapes (24%), dabs (8%) and edibles (6%) proved less popular. Tinctures (0.9%), topicals (0.4%) and drinks (0.3%) all registered below 1% in reported consumption.

Those figures are also similar by gender: flower consumption was reported by 62% of males and 60% of females. Consumption of vapes (25% male, 24% female), dabs (8% for both male and female), and edibles (7% male, 5% female) were also similar.

Flower consumption also remained steady amongst all age demographics, and was most-reported amongst the 58-76 age group at 64%. Meanwhile, 60% of the 42-57 age group reported flower consumption, 62% for the 26-41 demographic, and 60% amongst the under 26 crowd.

Vapes, in contrast, were most popular amongst Gen Z, with 27% of that demographic reporting vape consumption. Only 18% of the 58-76 demographic reported vape consumption, while both the 26-41 and 42-57 demos were at 22%.

Arkansas Supreme Court Will Let Voters Decide Cannabis Measure

To the dismay of the Arkansas Board of Election Commissioners, an adult-use cannabis ballot measure’s title is not misleading, and the question will be decided by voters this November, the state Supreme Court ruled Sept. 22.

That ruling also came as a defeat to Save Arkansas From Epidemic (SAVE) and Safe and Secure Communities, which forced their way into the lawsuit after filing motions to intervene in an attempt to keep the legalization measure off the ballot. The filing by SAVE included an affidavit from Kevin Sabet, the co-founder of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM), a notorious prohibitionist group.

In a split decision by the Supreme Court, the majority opinion ruled that the ballot title for Responsible Growth Arkansas’ proposed constitutional amendment properly informs voters and is sufficient for inclusion on the Nov. 8 ballot.

“We conclude that the ballot title at issue is complete enough to convey an intelligible idea of the scope and import of the proposed amendment,” Justice Robin Wynne wrote in the majority opinion. “Therefore, respondents and intervenors have not met their burden of proving that the ballot title is insufficient. The people will decide whether to approve the proposed amendment in November.”

The legal battle, in part, stemmed from the ballot referendum’s aim to repeal the THC dosage limit—specifically in food and beverage products containing cannabis—under Arkansas Amendment 98, the medical cannabis ballot measure that voters passed with a 53.2% majority in the 2016 election.

Alaska Governor Establishes Adult-Use Cannabis Task Force

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy wants to conduct a thorough review of the state’s seven-year-old adult-use cannabis program to help eliminate burdens for the state’s businesses.

Dunleavy issued Administrative Order No. 339 on Sept. 21 to establish the Governor’s Advisory Task Force on Recreational Marijuana, which will review the state’s current tax and fee structures, as well as the current adult-use regulations, and provide recommendations for improvement to the governor’s office.

“In the past seven years Alaska’s marijuana industry has flourished but is still considered a new and evolving industry in Alaska,” Dunleavy said in a public statement Wednesday. “As we would expect to see with any new industry, concerns have been raised about the structure the industry has been operating under. A cornerstone of my administration has been to review unnecessary regulations that are a burden to business, while ensuring oversight to protect the health, life, and safety of all Alaskans. It is my hope that with the formation of the Governor’s Advisory Task Force on Recreational Marijuana, we can bring together a variety of voices and perspectives to evaluate existing provisions and consider recommendations to improve the viability of the industry.”

Alaska voters approved an adult-use cannabis legalization measure in the 2014 election that took effect in February 2015. The initiative levied a $50 per ounce excise tax on the sale of cannabis from warehouses to retailers, and this, among other provisions, is what Dunleavy would like to evaluate.

The 13-member task force will have three voting members who are state officials, according to the press release from the governor’s office, including:

Maine’s Adult-Use Cannabis Sales Continue to Climb in Second Year

Despite a dismal municipal opt-in rate since coming on board with commercial adult-use cannabis sales nearly two years ago, Maine’s retail market has shown consistent month-over-month growth throughout 2022.

In August, licensed dispensaries recorded more than $17 million in adult-use sales, representing 4.1% growth over July and a staggering 68% increase from August 2021 sales, according to the state’s Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP). Last month featured the largest sales total since Maine launched adult-use sales in October 2020.

Roughly 59% of the $17 million in adult-use sales last month came from usable cannabis (flowers, prerolls, shake/trim), while nearly 23% came from concentrates and 18% came from infused products, according to OCP.

The average retail price for dry flower was $248 per ounce in August, a slight dip from the $278-per-ounce average for the calendar year and a whole so far. In 2021, dry flower averaged $361 an ounce, according to OCP.

So far in 2022, Maine’s adult-use retailers have sold nearly $98.3 million in cannabis, a 120% increase compared to the same eight-month period from last year. Last year, August represented the largest sales month with $10.1 million in transactions.

The state’s market growth comes despite roughly 10% of municipalities in Maine opting in to allow licensed retailers to set up shop in their jurisdictions. Currently, only 52 towns, cities and plantations among approximately 500 municipalities in the state have a retail footprint, according to OCP.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Sept. 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- PRESS RELEASE -- Trulieve Cannabis Corp., a cannabis company in the U.S., today announced the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission (GMCC) awarded Trulieve GA, Inc. with a Class 1 production license. Trulieve patients in Georgia will be able to choose from a variety of low-THC oil products in both oral and topical forms in the near future.

The GMCC's decision solidifies and expands Trulieve's Southeastern hub and will introduce the company's high-quality and safe products in Georgia's developing medical cannabis market. Georgia's "Hope Act" was signed into law in 2019 to authorize the Commission to oversee the selection process to launch a medical cannabis program in the state. After evaluating and scoring the competitive submissions, GMCC announced in July 2021 of its intent to award Trulieve a license in part due to the company's ability to make products available to patients across the entire state.

"Trulieve is thrilled to receive a Georgia cannabis production license and we appreciate the Commission's diligence throughout the selection process," said Kim Rivers, CEO of Trulieve. "We look forward to educating the Georgia market on the numerous health and wellness benefits of cannabis, as well as providing patients statewide access to the medical cannabis they have been seeking."

Trulieve will have an initial allocation of five medical cannabis dispensaries in Georgia and will seek to open additional dispensaries in the state as the patient population grows. Trulieve is building an indoor cultivation facility in Adel, Ga., to produce low-THC oil products. The Adel site will also house a processing facility as part of the company's vertically integrated "seed-to-sale" model.

"The Georgia team is hard at work to begin operations as soon as possible to ensure those in need have access to Trulieve's line of products," said Lisa Pinkney, president of Trulieve Georgia. "We're also excited to share that Trulieve's operation and its ancillary business partners are projected to create a wide range of jobs in the state as the business grows."

How to Reach New Customers With Seasonal Product Offerings

Curiosity may have been game over for the cat, but it’s game on for the cannabis consumer.

In an increasingly competitive market, driving consumer interest in new or seasonal products comes from various approaches and marketing maneuvers, including timely offerings that help keep things fresh and alluring.

With the autumn equinox upon the cannabis industry, introducing new flavors for infused beverages, finding the right menu placement for pumpkin-spiced edibles, or hyping up that new product drop on Green Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) could draw in new customers or give experienced shoppers a reason to crossover to new market segments.

But acquiring increased interest levels boils down to “offering unique products that spark the curiosity of new customers and give them a reason to try you out,” Oswaldo Graziani, creative marketing director at Florida-based Fluent, tells Cannabis Business Times.

“Being visible with new product drops and offerings is one of the easiest strategies to deploy,” says Brandon Wiegand, chief operating officer at Las Vegas-based Thrive Cannabis Marketplace.

“Seasonality affects most product categories, but the most substantial impact comes with the edibles category,” says Thomas Winstanley, chief marketing officer at Massachusetts-based Theory Wellness.
