About
New York's Governor signed the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act of 2021 (MRTA) on March 31 2021 allowing adults 21 and older to use cannabis recreationally.

Social justice issues like racial inequality have shaken workforce laws across the country. The governor's office projects MRTA revenues of up to $350 million annually and creation of 30-60,000 jobs statewide. However, many sections of the MRTA, including employment related sections of the law, are effective immediately.

The May 20, 2021 Legal Update will focus on the following prescient issues facing New Jersey employers and human resource professionals:
I. The Decriminalization of Marijuana and the Workplace
On February 22, 2021, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into law the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Act (“CREAMMA”). Among other things, the 240-page measure legalizes the recreational use of marijuana for adults age 21 and older and places significant restrictions on companies doing business in New Jersey related to marijuana use and the workplace. Topics addressed will include, but not be limited to, the following topics:
Employee Protections (anti-discrimination, reasonable accommodations, off duty conduct)
Employer Rights (drug testing and drug free workplace, safety-sensitive positions)
“Workplace Impairment Recognition Experts”
Unresolved Issues and the new Cannabis Regulatory Commission
Report from the Front Lines
2. 2021 Legal and Legislative Update
Howard Vex will first provide a review of recently enacted legislation and executive orders that affect the workplace including employee arbitration agreements, guaranteed severance pay for mass layoffs, enhanced unionization rights, the paid sick leave regulations, Covid-19 vaccine mandates and more. Howard Vex will then provide a case law roundup of the ten most interesting cases impacting the workplace from the U.S. Supreme Court, the Third Circuit and the New Jersey Courts. Finally, Mr. Vex will wrap up the evening’s presentation with a review of important cases scheduled before the U.S. Supreme Court and New Jersey Supreme Court for the remainder of 2021 and proposed Federal and State legislation that could significantly impact the workplace.
Presenter Howard A. Vex, Esq. will lead the program. Mr. Vex has been representing employers in all areas of labor and employment law for thirty years and currently serves as Senior Counsel at Vex Law, LLC, a boutique labor and employment law firm serving employers throughout New Jersey. Mr. Vex graduated Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Rutgers Law School as a Sydney Reitman Labor Law Scholar. He worked with Jackson Lewis in Morristown earlier in his legal career and, prior to striking out on his own, led the Employment Law Department at Courter, Kobert and Cohen in Hackettstown. Mr. Vex has been a member of our SHRM Chapter since 2005, currently serves as our Legislative Chair and has served as Chapter President.

Dead and Company are liked and admired as no other band currently in the music field. The group comprises of the living members of the Grateful Dead and John Mayer. After roaming across the Grateful Dead song “Althea,” the band has got widespread deep appreciation. The joining of John Mayer in 2015 lead to an unbreakable bond between two rock stars. The Business of Cannabis: Cultivating a Ninety-Million Dollar Market in the Nutmeg State
In June, the Hartford Business Journal will host The Business of Cannabis, a forum highlighting the opportunities and obstacles in the potential $90 million market in the Nutmeg State.
Connecticut marijuana sales fall somewhere between $50 million and $60 million a year at eighteen licensed, highly regulated dispensaries, and that's what the general assembly legalizing adult use marijuana which would instantly multiply sales several times and bring in perhaps $90 million annually in much needed tax revenue for the state.
This morning forum will focus on the business in this exciting, emerging industry that faces unique issues--- especially while the consumption of marijuana remains prohibited at the federal level.
This event will explore how Connecticut businesses can capitalize on this emerging industry while navigating the constantly evolving matrix of state compliance regulations.

Cannabis is currently one of the fastest-growing industries in Canada!

With the legalization and commercialization of Cannabis, the industry has seen an uprise in career and business opportunities.

The possibilities of Cannabis extend to a wide range, including its benefits in the medicine, recreational, cosmetic, and health and wellness sectors. However, employers are struggling to find skilled workers in the job market!

At NACPT, we are on a mission to bridge this lack of qualified candidates and the booming career opportunities through specific career, networking and informative events.

The event begins with an information session by industry experts, professors and professional consultants working with cannabis regulatory agencies and industry leaders. Following this all attendees can interact and network with the speakers and fellow attendees on cannabis related topics and discuss potential career and business opportunities.

This session also covers the Health Canada’s requirements for hiring employees in the cannabis industry as well as certifications and educational qualifications the cannabis industry is looking for in the employers.

NACPT Pharma College is an industry recognized career college that works in affiliation with major cannabis and health associations. See our affiliates here. The career events also give you the scope of networking with these associations.

LEARN THE LEGAL/BUSINESS PROCEDURE ON HOW TO START A MARIJUANA BUSINESS IN NEW JERSEY. Seminar speaker - Douglas C. Anton, Esq.
About this event
And so it began... After years of false starts and failed attempts, Gov. Murphy signed into law three bills that effectively permit and regulate the use of recreational marijuana in New Jersey, making it the most populous state in the Northeast to fully legalize the drug. This new industry is expected to generate about $126 million a year in revenue for the state once the market is created. New Jersey is now one of 14 states to legalize the recreational use of cannabis for adults 21 and older, while also easing several penalties for underage possession and allowing for the creation of a regulated market that could provide a welcomed boost to the state’s economy as it recovers from the pandemic. Although legal sales remain months away, the State, through its Cannabis Regulatory Commission, or CRC, must create detailed regulation, large enough to support public demand, with licenses still to be doled out to dispensaries and thereafter at each of the six levels of licensure. With that comes rules, regulations, laws, licenses, and the like, that will permit New Jersey citizens the opportunity to "get in" on the now legal recreational marijuana industry. This seminar will address the laws creation, expected regulation and the expected application process based on what has been the standard in every other legalized cannabis state.
This event includes the seminar/lecture, followed by a question and answer session. Once you register and provide your email address, you will be sent, via email, all the seminar course materials digitally before the event. No paper copies will be provided at the event, so print out what you receive and bring it with you.
Interested parties can attend this LIVE event at the location (40 tickets only, social distancing will be practiced) or attend VIRTUALLY via Zoom or other video webcast. If you attend the live event, pass around hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served and are included in your ticket price. The event location is Le Malt. It is a cigar bar/lounge in Red Bank, New Jersey. There will be smoking of cigars permitted at this location, but not pot... at least not yet...
